History

Chassis 6TM was a nickel finish long wheelbase Silver Ghost which came off tests in June 1924 and was delivered by road ex-Lillie Hall, on 5 July 1924 to Barker & Co (Coachbuilders) Ltd. It was bodied by Barker with enclosed limousine/landaulette coachwork. This six-wheel equipped chassis with B rake steering was fitted with Dunlop 33 x 5" tyres and Lucas lighting.

The car was sold to Mrs F. May of Brookwood, Maidenhead but registered (Vic) 111.000 in January 1927 by Harold Darling of Glyndebourne, Kooyong Rd, Toorak, a neighbour of Alice and Gertrude Simmons (cf. Chassis 15CW) and The Hon William Baillieu, (cf. Chassis 62FW.) Darling was a partner in John Darling & Son, merchants and millers, as well as holding directorships with the Broken Hill Pty Ltd and the National Bank of Australasia Ltd.

Darling had Martin & King build a modern saloon body with a division and four rear hinged doors onto the frame c1934-35. It retained all original Lucas lighting equipment.

6TM was later with M. Preston of Melbourne c1950 and registered (Vic) HN.063. By the early 1950s it had moved to Queensland, owned by John Bristoe of Maryborough, and by c1958 it was with Gordon Skillington in Queensland. Faris Palfreyman acquired the car for his collection at Ingleside c1960-62. At Palfreyman's auction in 1969 the car was considered to be in fair condition. It had 700 x 21" tyres and was equipped with B rake steering. Estimates ranged from $2000 to $2500 but it realised $3100, being sold to Ross Marshall, Mercedes-Benz dealer of Parramatta, Sydney. It was sold c1975 to Reg Hunt of Melbourne (cf Chassis 1425) and, fitted with an elegant new tourer body by George Williams of Sydney, then placed in storage.

In early 2003 Chassis 6TM was sold to Sydney and soon after offered for auction but did not reach reserve. The car was offered on the Internet eBay auction site in June 2003 stating that it had not done more than 100 miles since full restoration.
